Ahead of Monday’s IMAGE Networking Breakfast, Ruth Scott talks about her career, her influences and shares her ultimate Christmas song…
What was your path to radio?
My path was almost accidental & yet in hindsight, quite driven.
Who are your radio influencers?
Tony Fenton was like a god on the radio when I was a teenager. He was incredible kind & helpful when I started working in radio too.
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I was never very good at long-term thinking but toyed with the idea of either law or journalism. (What was I thinking???!!!)
What do you love/ what buzz do you get from radio?
There is nothing on earth that gives you that electric feeling of being in front of a live mic. You are on & you can’t stop & re-record. It gives me immense pleasure being on air. It lifts my mood so that even if I’m feeling like rubbish, I fake the good mood for the show & ultimately, leave the building feeling better.
What’s your favourite memory from your career so far?
Broadcasting from a sewer, working backstage at the MTV EMAs for years, getting the best picture on the night Tom Cruise came to Dublin & oddly, the day I broadcast from a glorified horse box
What is your favourite Christmas song?
I adore Mariah Carey “All I want for Christmas” and never tire of it. 20 years old this week – eeek! When I see that song performed in the film “Love Actually” I get a bit weepy. Like I say, I never tire of it!
